Biaggi Suzuki deal already done?
MotoGP star Max Biaggi may have already signed to ride for Alstare Suzuki in World Superbike next season, according to BSB race winner Scott Smart.
Vivaldi rider Smart is at the Lausitzring this weekend for TV commentary commitments and spoke to Crash.net Radio about the latest WSBK paddock rumours - including the future of former four-times 250cc world champion Biaggi, facing the choice of a satellite d'Antin Ducati MotoGP ride or a factory Alstare Suzuki WSBK seat for next season.
"I think there's probably quite a lot of foundation for that," said Scott, when asked about the Biaggi to WSBK rumours. "The Battas have been running the Corona Alstare team for a long time, and used to run a GP team, so they've got an awful lot of experience and are one of the teams that would appeal to Biaggi. There were obviously lots of rumours about him ridiing for them this season, but if it wasn't a full factory bike he wasn't interested.
"But Biaggi hasn't got any really competitive offers in MotoGP next year so he needs to look towards this paddock, and the Suzuki is a factory bike, so it looks like it could be a very strong possibility. To be fair, talking to Francis Batta in their hospitality, I think it's probably a done deal..."
35-year-old Biaggi, a winner of 42 grands prix, lost his grand prix seat at the end of last season after falling out with Honda.
Reigning world champion Troy Corser and Yukio Kagayama currently ride for the Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra team, but are only fifth and seventh in the world championship standings with three rounds still to go.
